Waste Battery Regulations
Under the Waste Battery Regulations Keene Retail Ltd are now offering a take back scheme for all portable waste batteries. You can return your waste batteries to our business premises in person (please do not post).
Alternatively you can find your local waste portable battery recycling facility at www.recyclenow.com
Most Supermarkets and shops that sell batteries will have collection bins for used batteries, and some town halls, libraries or schools may also set up collection points. End-Users may find stores in their local area more accessible.
Please recycle your electrical equipment
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) came into force in January 2007. The aim of this directive is to encourage re-use and recycling, and to minimise the negative environmental aspects of disposal.
In a single year the UK alone creates enough electrical waste to fill the new Wembley Stadium 6 times! Electrical waste often contains hazardous substances and if these items are sent to landfill they can become exposed and have a detrimental effect on the environment and human health. By ensuring that you dispose of your old electrical and electronic equipment according to the new WEEE legislation you are helping to preserve our natural resources and protect human health.
To remind you to recycle products at the end of their useful life all electrical items produced after 13 August 2005 are marked with a crossed out wheelie bin symbol like this:
When your item has reached the end of its useful life and you wish to dispose of it, you can either:
a) Take it to a local recycling centre. The web site http://www.recycle-more.co.uk will help you locate the most convenient centre for you and also provides a lot of other helpful information on recycling.
b) Return the item to Keene Electronics Ltd at the address below. This option is provided on a like-for-like basis against the purchase of a new equivalent item or an item which has the same or similar functions. Keene Electronics Ltd will then ensure that the returned item is properly recycled on your behalf.
If your item is still in working order it is also worth considering donating it to a charitable organisation or someone else in need. By extending the useful life of your old equipment you are also helping to preserve resources and avoid additional waste.
